46% of crypto lost from exploits is due to traditional Web2 flaws - Immunefi

Image
The security platform released a report categorizing Web3 exploits in 2022, concluding that nearly half came from “infrastructure” or centralized elements. A new report from blockchain security platform Immunefi suggests that nearly half of all crypto lost from Web3 exploits is due to Web2 security issues such as leaked private keys. The report, released on November 15, looked back at the history of crypto exploits in 2022, categorizing them into different types of vulnerabilities. It concluded that a full 46.48% of the crypto lost from exploits in 2022 was not from smart contract flaws but was rather from “infrastructure weaknesses” or issues with the developing firm’s computer systems. Pepecoin: Insider trading claims surface amid token theft

On-chain analyst Yazan reports insider selling of PEPE holdings, with around 400 billion PEPE sold, aligning with Pauly’s team exposure. Former Pepecoin (PEPE) promoter turned crypto influencer Jeremy “Pauly” Cahen has leveled insider trading allegations against the Pepecoin team following the reported theft of around 16 trillion PEPE tokens. Pauly is now exposing team members’ identities, divulging their wallet activities. On-chain analysts also point to significant Pepecoin transactions involving insiders. In an Aug. 26 update, Pauly disclosed that the Pepecoin team possesses approximately $16–17 million in PEPE tokens distributed across nine wallets. Surprisingly, the insiders refrained from selling the holdings. Instead, they strategically offloaded PEPE from a centralized exchange (CEX) wallet, establishing a substantial short position. “I’ll likely be working with multiple branches of law enforcement to ensure that @degenharambe & the rest of his partners on the @pepecoine...

Uniswap v3 code free to fork as BSL expires

The license expiration marks a significant event within the DeFi ecosystem, as it enables developers to deploy their own decentralized exchange (DEX). Developers are now allowed to fork Uniswap v3 protocol as its Business Source License (BSL) expired on April 1, shows the protocol documentation. The expiration was a much-anticipated event within the DeFi ecosystem, as it enables developers to deploy their own decentralized exchange (DEX).  The BSL is a type of license meant to last for a determinate period before becoming completely open source. In general, the purpose is to protect the author's right to profit from their creations. Uniswap v3's license was released in 2021 for a period of two years, preventing its code from commercial use. A new license called General Public License applies to the protocol now. To fork the code, developers will be required an Additional Use Grant, a production exemption meant to accommodate both the needs of open-source and commercial devel...

In fact, stalwarts, time and again, kept emphasizing the importance of self-custody and managing one’s own wallet keys. The U.S. is now in the midst of a banking crisis, and the community has yet again circled back to the same. They have started re-asserting that self-custody “is the way” and decentralization could help build a better system. According to on-chain data tweeted by Research and Data Analyst, James Straten, around 70k Bitcoin has been taken into self-custody since the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, justifying the community’s inclination. #Bitcoin self-custody withdrawals yesterday were one of the biggest one-day increases in the past 6 months. 70k #bitcoin has been taken into self-custody since the collapse of SVB on Thursday. pic.twitter.com/bAEcIw0Ar8 — James V.
