The IMF says that state-issued digital currencies can re place cash, which is costly to distribute in island economies. At the Singapore Fintech Festival on Nov. 15, Georgieva addressed the potential of digital currencies to “offer resilience” in more advanced economies, saying that CBDCs can “improve financial inclusion where few hold bank accounts.” You might also like: US congressman pushes bill to shield privacy in CBDCs The IMF chief also mentioned Meta’s Libra project, saying it was a “wake-up call that turned out to be a false alarm.” Yet, despite Meta’s failure, other “more compliant” players will “come knocking,” Georgieva added...

Bitcoin hits $28,000 after BlackRock files for BTC ETF

Image
On this week’s episode of The Market Report, Cointelegraph looks at the probable causes of recent Bitcoin price action, and its market dominance reaching 50% of the total crypto market cap. In the latest episode of  The Market Report,  Cointelegraph analyst and writer Marcel Pechman explains what’s behind Bitcoin (BTC) reaching 50% crypto market dominance for the first time in two years amid Blackrock’s spot exchange-traded fund (ETF) filing, and the United States Securities and Exchange Commission’s crackdown on altcoins. According to Pechman, it must be admitted that no one expected Bitcoin to become the second-largest nonfungible token blockchain. Analysis from CryptoSlam shows that the 30-day adjusted data — excluding wash trades — was $380 million for Ether (ETH), versus $104 million on Bitcoin and $40 million on Solana (SOL). Therefore, Michael Saylor’s call for 80% market dominance depends on decentralized finance moving to the Bitcoin network. While it might sound impossible ...

Crypto Market to be 'Much Bigger' in the Future: Blockchain.com CEO

Image
The crypto market has been consolidating for more than a fortnight now. Bitcoin has been rangebound between $26k-$27.5k. Likewise, most other large and mid-cap assets have also been consolidating. However, there are several on-chain signs pointing toward recovery at this stage. The Stablecoin Supply Ratio [SSR], for instance, has been dropping over the past few days. In the first week of the month, it created a local peak at 8.09. Now, however, it is down to 7.35. Lower values usually indicate a comparatively high stablecoin supply. Historically SSR bottoms have led to some form of strong recovery if not a complete trend reversal. Thus, it can be contended that the current downtrend is pointing toward the textbook theory of buy pressure gaining steam and hints towards a possible leg up for Bitcoin. Source: CryptoQuant In fact, several companies like Blockchain.com have been bearing the fruit of stablecoin adoption . At the Qatar Economic Forum, the company’s Co-Founder and C...

From Bat-Signal to Bitcoin: Projecting 'Orange Pill' on banks as EU drives crypto regulation

The Bitcoin logo lights up on the European Central Bank building in Frankfurt as Bitcoiners urge bankers to ‘study Bitcoin.’ “The signal goes on, and he shows up. That's the way it's been. That's the way it will be.” Whenever Gotham faces an existential threat, the Bat-Signal lights up the night sky. In the DC Comics universe, Batman always shows up to save the day when he’s called upon. Bitcoiners in Germany employed a similar tactic this week, emblazoning the preeminent crypto currency’s logo with a message to ‘study Bitcoin’ on the side of the European Central Bank building in Frankfurt. The images were shared widely across social media, with notable Bitcoin (BTC) proponents and various company profiles lauding the display. #Bitcoin looks good on the ECB building pic.twitter.com/k8odYEpAZd — Alistair Milne (@alistairmilne) March 30, 2023 A dose of the proverbial ‘Orange Pill’ is particularly pertinent given that the global banking sector has been under the spotlight ...

Ripple CEO: XRP lawsuit resolved by June, SEC conduct 'embarrassing'

Image
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse said the firm's XRP lawsuit could come to an end within "single-digit months." Speaking to CNBC on Jan. 18 at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Garlinghouse said the verdict could come as soon as June this year now that both parties have “fully filled and fully briefed” their arguments before the U.S. District Court: “We expect a decision from a judge certainly in 2023. You don’t really have control over when a judge makes their decisions. But I’m optimistic that sometime in the coming single digit months we’ll have closure there.” While Garlinghouse and investors believe the facts, law and the court will ultimately side with Ripple, the Ripple CEO also took the opportunity to ridicule the SEC’s “embarrassing” behav...
